Given: The mean of below observations is 7. Then find the unknown value x .

Solution: we know,

Arithmetic mean= sum of observations ÷number of observations.

= observations are 8,4,x,6,2,7.

= number of observations are 6

= by the formulae, 8+4+x+6+2+7÷ 6

= mean=7

= 7 = 8+4+x+6+2+7÷6

= 7= 27 +x ÷6

= when we transport 6 into LHS it changes into multiplication.

= 7×6 =27+x

= 42 = 27+x

= 42-27 =x

= 15 =x.

= x=15
