Given :- If the arithmetic mean of 5,4, x,x +3,9and 8 is 6, find out value of x. ?

Solution :-

we know that,

  • mean = average = (sum of observation) / (Total number of observation ) .

given that,

  • observations are = 5, 4, x , (x + 3) , 9 and 8 .
  • Total number of observation = 6
  • mean = 6

Putting values we get,

→ mean = (sum of observation) / (Total number of observation ) .

→ 6 = (5 + 4 + x + x + 3 + 9 + 8) / 6

→ 6 * 6 = 29 + 2x

→ 36 = 29 + 2x

→ 2x = 36 - 29

→ 2x = 7

dividing both sides by 2,

→ x = 3.5 (Ans.)

Hence, value of x is 3.5 .
