Answer:

Age of father =22

Age of son = 2

Step-by-step explanation:

Let age of father be x

Let age of son be y

we have,

               x+y = 24

We also have,

                  1/4 (y)(24-y) = y+9

24y-y^2 = 4y + 36

y^2-20y+36=0

y^2-18y-2y+36=0

y(y-18)-2(y-18)=0

y=18. ,y= 2

If y is 18 then x is 6

If y is 2 then x is 22

y= 18 and x = 6 is not possible because age of father can never be less than that of his son

So ,

x= 22 , y= 2
