let side of square= a unit.
diagonal = √2a
area of square = a^2 =a×a
now if we double the length of diagonal
diagonal =2×√2a =√2× 2a
means side = 2a
area of new square is (2a)^2= 4a^2
So area of square becomes 4 times.
