If the difference between the two numbers is 2 and the smallest the two
numbers is 40, what is the average of those two numbers ? answer me this question

The value of the smaller number is 10.

Let the two numbers be x and y, and x will be the smaller number. If the smaller number is one fifth of the larger, then the larger number is five times the smaller. So:

y-x=40

y=5x

5x-x=40

4x/4=40/4
