Answer:

the distance between A (x, -1) and B (3,2) is 5

(3-x)'2 + (2+1)'2 =5'2

9+x'2 -6x +9= 25

18+x'2-6x =25

x'2-6x-7=0

x'2-7x+x-7=0

x(x-7)+1(x-7)=0

(x-7)(x+1)=0

x=7 or x=-1(which is not possible)

therefore x=7
