Step-by-step explanation:

By Pythagoras' Theorem, the square of the distance from (x, y) to (6, 2) is

( x - 6 )² + ( y - 2 )².

Similarly, the square of the distance from (x, y) to (2, 6) is

( x - 2 )² + ( y - 6 )².

Since the distances are equal, then certainly the squares of the distances are equal, so

( x - 6 )² + ( y - 2 )²  =  ( x - 2 )² + ( y - 6 )²

=> x² - 12 x + 36 + y² - 4 y + 4 = x² - 4 x + 4 + y² - 12 y + 36

=> - 12 x - 4 y = - 4 x - 12 y

=> 8 x = 8 y

=> x = y.
