The defect of vision that Adavit is suffering from is (3)Hypermetropia.

Hypermetropia is a condition where the person is unable to see nearby objects clearly. The objects that are at a certain distance or beyond that can be seen clearly. The point beyond with the person can see the objects clearly is known as the near point of the person. This defect is also known as far-sightedness as the person can see faraway objects.

In this condition, the image is formed behind the retina. It can be corrected using a converging lens(Convex lens) of suitable power. Converging lenses have positive power.

Therefore, the lens used here is a converging lens used to correct hypermetropia.

About other defects of vision:

  • Myopia: It is also known as near-sightedness. In this condition, the person is unable to see clearly objects beyond a certain point, known as the far point. The image is formed before the retina and hence diverging lenses are required to correct this defect.
  • Presbyopia: It is a condition often associated with old age. It is associated with the loss of the ability to read nearby letters. It can also be caused due to weak eye muscles in old age. Sometimes, the person finds it difficult to see both nearby and far objects. It can be corrected by the use of bi-focal lenses.
