If the energy of a ball falling from a height of 10 meters is reduced by 40% , how high will it rebound?​

  • Let the mass of ball = m

  • Initial height of ball = 10m

PE = mgh = 10mg

  • After falling, its energy is reduced by 40% when it hits the ground.

  • After hitting, energy loss = 10mg × 40/100 = 4mg

Energy remaining = 10mg - 4mg = 6mg

  • Let the height it attains after rebound = H

  • PE at height H will be 6mg

=> mg H = 6mg

=> H = 6m

  • It will rebound to a height of 6m
