we know, energy of electron in nth orbit is given by
Here Z is atomic number and n is orbit in which electron revolves around the nucleus .
so, you can see that energy of electron in nth orbit is inversely proportional to n²
For same hydrogen like atom.
Here, energy of electron in 2nd orbit ,E₂ = - 13.6 × 1²/2² = -E ---(1)[ when z = 1 ]
Also energy of electron in 1st orbit , E₁ = - 13.6 × 1²/1²
From equation (1),
E₁ = 4 × (-E) = -4E
Hence, option ( b) is correct.
