→ If the chloride of the metal is MCl2, from this we know that the metallic ion is M2+ and the non-metallic ions are 2 Cl- ions.
→ This is because we know that the valency of Cl- is -1 and if there are 2 of them in a molecule, there should be +2 charge to balance it.
→ As there is only 1 metal ion, it must have a +2 charge.
→ Now, to your question, we know that the metal is M has +2 charge and the anion is phosphate, (PO4) has -3 charge.
→ To balance the two charges, we will take 3 M ions to get +6 charge and 2 (PO4) ions to get -6 charge.
→ The charges are balanced out and will produce a neutral compound M3(PO4)2.
