If a galvanised iron will loose its Zinc coating then it will not corrode.
This happens because the Zinc layer when in contact with oxygen from atmosphere, rapidly loses its electrons which then travels through the electrolyte to the Iron. This electron then reduces little iron oxide that is formed on iron. This activity continues until all the zinc is exhausted and thereby prevents iron from corrosion.
