Solution :

The internal dimensions of a closed box made up of wood 1.5 cm thick are 24 cm, 18 cm and 13 cm .

We have to find the volume of wood in the box.

To do so, we need to subtract the volume formed by the internal dimensions of the box from the volume as per the external dimensions of the box.

As it's a closed box, thickness of each dimension is taken twice.

Internal Dimensions

Length = 24 cm

Breadth = 18 cm

Height = 12 cm

Voiume_int = Length × Breadth × Height

= 24 × 18 × 12 cm³

= 5616 cm³

The thickness of wood is 1.5 cm

External dimensions :

Length = 24 + (1.5×2) = 24 + 3 = 27 cm

Similarly

Breadth = 21 cm

Height = 15 cm

Volume_ext = 27 × 21 × 15 cm³

= 8505 cm³

Volume of wood = External Volume - Internal Volume

= (8505 - 5616) cm³

= 2889 cm³.

This is the required answer.

QUESTION :-

If the internal dimensions of a closed box made up of wood 1.5 cm thick are 24 cm 18 cm and 12 cm, find the volume of wood in box.

GIVEN :-

If the internal dimensions of a closed box made up of wood 1.5 cm thick are 24 cm 18 cm and 12 cm

TO FIND :-

find the volume of wood in box = ?

SOLUTION :-

internal volume of the box

= L × B × H

= 24 × 18 × 12

= 5184 cm

External length = { 24 + 3} = 27

External breadth = {18 + 3 } = 21

External height = { 12 + 3 } = 15

External volume = 27 × 21 × 15 = 8505 cm

volume of wood = 8505 - 5184 = 3321 cm
