Let the original length  is L

So here change in length is 1% = (1/100)×L

by  strain  formula

\epsilon=\frac{\Delta L}{L} \\\epsilon=\frac{\frac{1\times L}{100} }{L} \\\epsilon=0.01

Hence strain is 0.01
