The median divides the triangle into two right-angled triangles.

One of the angles in the triangle is 60°.

So the other side (not the hypotenuse) is x/tan60° = x/√3.

Area of right-angled triangle = ½ x x/√3 = ½x²/√3

Area of equilateral triangle = x²/√3 cm²
