Let length of and breadth of a rectangle are xcm and ycm

⇒ Area of a rectangle =length×breadth

=xy

⇒ Area of a rectangle =xycm

2

---- ( 1 )

Now, when length and breadth gets double.

The length and breadth becomes 2x and 2y

⇒ Area of a rectangle =2x×2y

=4xycm

2

⇒ Area of a rectangle=4xycm

2

--- ( 2 )

Comparing ( 1 ) and ( 2 ) we can see,

⇒ If the length and the breadth of a rectangle are doubled then its area becomes 4 times.
