Given,

The total length of DNA= 1.36mm

As we know,

The distance between two consecutive base pairs is 0.34 * 10^-9 m

Therefore, total length of double helix DNA of an organism can be calculated by multiplying the total number of base pairs with the distance between the two consecutive bp.

Let the total number of bp be x

1.36= x * 0.34 * 10^-9

=> x= 4 * 10^6 bp

So, the number of base pairs in the given strand of E.coli is 4 * 10^6
