Given : longitude of a place A is 124°12' East,  Local time at A is 4:33 PM.

To Find : determine the standard time

Solution:

360 deg longitude = 24 hours

=> 1 deg longitude = 24 / 360 hr  = 1/15  hr  = 4 mins

Prime meridian follows GMT  is at 0  deg longitude

East is ahead of GMT  &  West lags GMT

124°12' East  = 124°12'    x  4  mins

=  124 x 4 + (12/60) * 4

= 496 + 0.8

= 496 mins 48 sec

= 8 hr 16 min 48 sec

local time at A is 4:33 PM

Hence Standard time ( GMT  time )

=  4:33 PM -  8 hr 16 min 48 sec

= 8 : 16 : 12  AM

8 hr 16 min 12 sec  AM

standard time when the local time at A is 4:33 PM. = 8 : 16 : 12  AM
