Given that the mean proportional between x and 2 is 4.

Mean proportional: The positive integer x is the Mean Proportion or Geometric Mean of the two positive numbers p and q, such that \frac{p}{x}=\frac{x}{q} .

Now from the given data

4=\sqrt{x \times 2}\\\Rightarrow 4=\sqrt{2x}\\\Rightarrow 16=2x\\\Rightarrow x=8

Therefore the value of x is 8.
