SOLUTION :

The correct option is (a) : 15

Given : Mode of the data = 15,

Data are 16, 15, 17, 16, 15, x, 19, 17, 14

Value         : 14 | 15 | 16 | 17 | 19 | x |

Frequency :  1  |  2  |  2  | 2   | 1   | 1 |

Given, that Mode of the data is 15, so it is the value with the maximum frequency because MODE is the value of the observation which has the maximum frequency .

This is possible only when x = 15 . Now the frequency of observation 15 would be 3(maximum frequency).

Hence, the value of x  is 15 .

Mode is the most repeated observation in a given set of data.

Given: The mode of the data is 15.

To find: The value of x.

Answer:

Observations: 16, 15, 17, 16, 15, x, 19, 17, 14.

Let's arrange it in ascending order to make it more easier to observe!

14, 15, 15, 16, 16, 17, 17, 19, x.

Now, we can see that the observations 15, 16, 17 and 19 are the most repeated ones (also in number of repetitions). But, it's given that the mode is 15 and not 16, 17 or 19. So it's only fair if x = 15.

Therefore, x = 15
