Answer:

29

Step-by-step explanation:

Concept= Median

Given= Data in ascending order and their median

To Find= The value of x in data

Explanation=

We have been given that  observations 19, 24 ,27 ,28, X +2,35,38,42,43 are in ascending order and their median is 31 and we need to find the value of X.

Ascending order= 19, 24 ,27 ,28, X +2,35,38,42,43

Median = n/2 th term for even number of observation

               (n+1)/2 th term for odd number of observation.

                here, n = number of observations of data given

Therefore the number of observations in 19, 24 ,27 ,28, X +2,35,38,42,43 are 9.

Since 9 is a odd number therefore the median will be (n+1)/2 th term of data

Median= (9+1)/2 th term

            = 10/2= 5th term of observation

So, the 5th term from the ascending order data is (X+2), it is the median.

Given median = 31=(X+2)

   X= 31-2= 29.

Therefore the value of X is 29.
