then perimeter=2(x+y)

let the side of the square be z

then perimeter=z

as, the perimeter of a square and a rectangle are equal,

z=2(x+y)

area of the square =2(x+y)*2(x+y)

                            = (4x^2)+(4y^2)+xy

area of the rectangle  =xy

so the area of square is grater
