Let (5, 8) be (x1,y1) and (x, 8) be (x2, y2 ).

and distance btw them is 3 units,

By distande formula,

=√(x2 - x1)^2 + (y2 - y1) ^2

3 = √(x - 5 )^2 + (8 - 8 )^2

3= √x^2 - 5^2 + (8^2 - 8^2)

3= √( x^2 - 25 ) + ( 64 - 64 )

3= √( x^2 - 25 ) + 0

3= √ x^2 - 25

3= x - 5

3 + 5 = x

So, x = 8

Hope it helps
