If the points are collinear then ;
x1 (y2-y3) +x2 (y3-y1) +x3 (y1-y2)=0
7 (2-6) + (-5) (6-a) + 3 (a-2)=0
by solving, a =8

kvnmurty: missing RHS: = 0 for the equation...

A (7, a)    ;     B (-5, 2)    ;  C(3,6)

Slope of  AB = Slope of BC
   (a - 2)/(7 - (-5)) =  (2 - 6) / (-5 -3)
   (a - 2) /12 = 1/2
    a = 8
