We know that if points (x1,y1); (x2,y2);(x3,y3) are collinear, then12[x1(y2−y3)+x2(y3−y1)+x3(y1−y2)] = 0Since P(−3,9); Q(a,b); R(4,−5) are collinear, then 12[−3(b+5)+a(−5−9)+4(9−b)] = 0⇒−3b−15−14a+36−4b=0⇒−14a−7b+21 = 0⇒2a+b−3 = 0⇒2a+b = 3 .....(1)Now, a + b = 1 .......(2)Subtracting (2) from (1), we geta = 2Now, from (2), we get b = −1
