Step-by-step explanation:

We know that remainder is same

in both situations .

So , at x = 2

2(2)³ + a(2)² + 3(2) - 5 = (2)³ + (2)² - 4(2) + a

2(8) + a(4) + 6 - 5 = 8 + 4 - 8 + a

16 + 4a + 1 = 4 + a

4a + 17 = 4 + a

3a = -13

a = -13/3
