If the positively charged ions are called cations & negatively charged are known as anions then why the positive electrode is called annode & negative electrode is called cathode

positively charge ions are called cation but the negatively charge electrode is called cathode because As we know the negative charge attracts the positive one, in the same way the cathode attracts the positively charged ions thus It might be named as cathode n vice versa in the case in of anion n anode... in my point of view..
