QUESTION UNCLEAR.
The power being same does not necessarily mean that base is also same.
An equation could be X^2 and Y^2
where the values of X and Y are different.
If the base is same and are being multiplied, the powers add up.
X^2 × X^5 = X^7
and are subtracted if being divided.
X^10/X^4 = X^6
And if the powers are in brackets, they are multiplied. For example
(X^2)^4 = X^8.
