If the price of petrol raised by 20% the that what is the percentage by which a car owner must reduce its consumption so as not to increase his expenditure on petrol​

If the price of quality goes up by x% then the quantity consumed should be reduced by (100×x/100+x)

20% increase in petrol

Therefore percentage reduction in consumption

=(100×20/100+20)%

=(2000/120)%

=(200/12)%

=(50/3)%

=16.66%

=16⅔%
