let no. of books be n

let price of a book be x

therefore, nx=300…………………………….(1)

now price reduced by 5 and number of books increased by 5

(x-5)(n+5)=300…………………………………..(2)

on solving we get

x=20

n=15……………………………….(answer)

Let's assume, original price = X

Reduced by 5 comes to X-5

Now, at price (X-5), he can buy 6 books and spend entire 300 he had.

The equation becomes -

(X-5) *6 =300

X-5= 300/6

X=50+5

Original price is 55.
