If the sequence of nucleotides on DNA is AGTCATT, then the subsequent sequence of nucleotides on mRNA will be UCAGUAA.

What is transcription?

  • Transcription is a process in which the nucleotide sequence present in the double stranded DNA strand is copied into a single stranded mRNA strand.
  • In short it involves synthesis of RNA from DNA.
  • As per the complementarity base pairing rule, the A (Adenine) pairs with T (Thymine), G (Guanine) pairs with C (Cytosine) and vice versa. Since, in RNA U (Uracil) base is present, therefore when DNA transcribes its gene, the A will pair with U not T (unlike DNA replication) and G pairs with C and vice versa. Therefore, the sequence would be UCAGUAA.
