answer is 4 times of the original because the length tthen becomes 2a and its area becomes 2a^{2} ] which is =4a^{2} which is 4 times of the original

We can actually figure it using algebra.


Original:

Side = x

Area = x^2


When doubled:

Side = 2x

Area = 4x^2


We can conclude that, it will become four times the original.
