Let the side of the square be 'x' then area of the square would be, x^2

( area of square = side * side)

According to the given condition

New side = (x + 8)cms

New area = x^2 + 120

Area of square = side * side

x^2 + 120 = (x+8)^2

x^2 + 120 = x^2 + 64 + 16x

x^2 - x^2 +120 - 64 = 16x

56 = 16x

16x = 56

x = 56/16

x = 3.5 cm

Hence side of square is 3.5 cm
