3x - y + k = 0

y = 3x + k

Matching y = 3x + k with the format y = mx + c

⇒ m = 3

⇒ Slope = 3

Find the x-intercept:

x intercept occurs when y = 0

3x + k = 0

3x = -k

x = -k/3

Find k:

Given that the slope and k is the same:

-k/3 = 3

-k = 9

k = -9

Answer: k = -9
