The linear momentum doubles.

  • Let's assume that an object of mass m is moving along a straight line with a velocity of v.

So, the initial linear momentum is

P_{i} = m \times v = mv

Now, when velocity is doubled (i.e. 2v), the linear momentum becomes:

P_{f} = m \times (2v) = 2mv = 2P_{i}

Similarly, the distance covered in equal time interval also doubles.

  • Initially, let the distance covered in time t be D

D = v \times t = vt

Now, after doubling of velocity, the new distance covered in same time will be :

d = (2 v) \times t = 2vt = 2D
