Kinetic energy of a body depends on its mass and its speed. Hence, ,kinetic energy will become 4 times the original kinetic energy if the speed is doubled.

we \: have \: ke =  \frac{1}{2}  {mv}^{2}

where \: m \: is \: mass \: and \: v \: is \: velocity

now

new \: mass = m -  \frac{m}{4}  =  \frac{3}{4} m

new \: velocity = 2v

now \: ke =  \frac{1}{2}  \times  \frac{3}{4} m \times  {2v}^{2}

 =  \frac{3 {mv}^{2} }{2}  = 3k
