If the square of the hypotenuse of an isosceles right angled triangle is 98 square centimetre find the length of each side

In an isosceles right triangle two sides are equal

Given square of hypotenuse = 98 cm²

Let the sides be xcm [as they are equal, let both the sides be xcm]

We know that by pythagoras theorem    

side² + side² = hyp²

⇒ x² + x² = 98

⇒ 2x² = 98

⇒ x² = 98/2

⇒ x² = 49

⇒ x = √49

∴ x = 7

∴The length of the congruent sides are 7cm and 7cm
