●Generally first letter of every element will be it's symbol.
●For few elements first two alphabets is written. First letter capital and second letter small letter.

In writing symbols special care must be taken.Capitalize only the first letter &lower case second letter if needed.This is very important in writing symbols.
Co is the symbol for the element cobalt. if you write CO (capital C & capital O) you have written the 2 elements carbon & oxygen .CO is the formula of carbon monoxide not the single element cobalt.In writing formula make sure to write the letters clearly.
