If the voltage 0.4v is applied across Ge diode it will act as conductor.

  • The barrier potential across p-n junction in Germanium diode is 0.3v.

  • If we apply a voltage greater than the barrier potential the width of depletion region across the junction decreases and become narrow.

  • As a result potential barrier broken and charge flow across the junction and diode starts conducting.

  • Here we are applying a voltage 0.4v which is greater than barrier potential 0.3v.

  • Hence diode starts conducting.
