for X metal lesser amount of energy will be required to emit an electron.

bcoz,

the minimum amount of energy required by an electron to just escape from the metal surface is called work function of the metal.

X = 4.17ev

Y = 8.24×10^-19J = 5.14ev

lesser amount of energy X metal..

hope it helps you..
