Answer :

Any line passing through the points A (h, 0) and B (0, k) be

(x - h)/(h - 0) = (y - 0)/(0 - k)

or, (x - h)/h = - y/k

or, x/h + y/k = 1 ...(i)

Given that the three points A, B and P lie on the same line, then P (a, b) lies on (i) no. line too.

Hence,

a/h + b/k = 1

Hence, proved.
