Answer:

Let the polynomial be denoted as P(x).

P(x) = x² + (a + 2)x + b

As per the question, 3 and 4 are the zeroes of the polynomial.

P(3) =0

=> 3² + (a + 2)3 + b = 0

=> 9 + 3a + 6 + b = 0

=> 3a + b + 15 = 0 .....eq.(1)

Again,

P(4) = 0

=> 4² + (a + 2)4 + b = 0

=> 16 + 4a + 8 + b = 0

=> 4a + b + 24 = 0 .....eq.(2)

Eq.(2) - Eq(1) = 0

=> a + 9 = 0

=> a = -9

Putting value of "a" in eq.(1)

3a + b + 15 = 0

=> 3 (-9) + b + 15 = 0

=> b - 27 + 15 = 0

=> b = 12

Final answer :

  • a = -9
  • b = 12
