The seller incurs a loss of 10.35% overall.

  • Two articles are sold at Rs. 4752 each.
  • On one the seller gains 32% and on one 28% .
  • We have to find the overall gain or loss percentage.
  • Let us assume the cost price of first be x_1 and other be x_2.
  • We have to calculate the profit and loss on the articles.
  • Profit percentage = \frac{4752-x_1}{x_1} × 100 = 32

4752-x_1 = 0.32x_1

4752 = 1.32x_1

x_1 = 4752/1.32 = 3600 Rs.

  • Therefore cost price of the article where the seller gains 32% is Rs. 3600.
  • Loss percentage = \frac{x_2-4752}{x_2} × 100 = 28

x_2-4752  = 0.28x_2

0.72x_2  = 4752

x_2 = Rs. 6600

  • Therefore cost price of the article where the seller loses 28% is Rs. 6600.
  • Now we have to calculate the net profit or loss percentage, we find the total cost price of two articles,
  • Total cost price = 6600 + 3600 = 10200 Rs.
  • Now ,Profit on article 1 - Loss on article 2 = Net gain

(4572-3600) - (6600-4752) = Net gain

Net gain = 972 - 2028 = -1056

  • Therefore the seller gains a loss of 1056 Rs. total on both products.
  • Now net loss percentage = \frac{Net \ loss}{total \ cost \ price} × 100

Net loss percentage = \frac{1056}{10200} × 100 = 10.35%
