Answer:

Let the number to be identified be x

As per the given condition

If we subtract 1/2 from a number and multiply the result by 1/2, we get 1/8.

So the equation becomes

(1/2)(x – 1/2) = (1/8)

=(x – 1/2) = (1/4)

=4x – 2 = 1

=4x = 3

Hence x = 3/4

Therefore 3/4 is the number from which if we subtract 1/2 from a number and multiply the result by 1/2, we get 1/8.

Here

we don't have a idea about the number

So, take x as the number

(x-1/2)×1/2=1/8

1/2x-1/4=1/8

2x-1/4=1/8

16x-8=4

4x-2=14

4x=14+2

4x=16

x=4

Therefore, the number z = 4
