Answer:

216

Step-by-step explanation:

⇒ Let the number be x, so that the equation becomes,

\frac{2}{3}x-50=\frac{1}{4}x+40

⇒ Send -50 from LHS to RHS and 1/4 x from RHS to LHS. Means, subtract 1/4 x - 50 from both sides.

\frac{2}{3}x-\frac{1}{4}x=40+50 \\ \\ x(\frac{2}{3}-\frac{1}{4})=90 \\ \\ x(\frac{2 \times 4 - 3 \times 1}{3 \times 4})=90 \\ \\ x(\frac{8-3}{12})=90 \\ \\ \frac{5}{12}x=90

⇒ Now multiply 12/5 to both sides.

\frac{5}{12}x \times \frac{12}{5}=90 \times \frac{12}{5} \\ \\ x=18 \times 12 \\ \\ x=\bold{216}

⇒ Thus the answer is 216.
