It is given that X - 1 is factor, that implies, X= 1(Since X - 1 = 0)

Substituting X = 1 in the equation, we have,

 = 2 {x}^{2}  + kx

 = 2 {(1)}^{2}  + k(1)

 = 2 + k

Now, WKT, 2 + K = 0.

Therefore,

k =  - 2
