(x -  \frac{1}{x} ) {}^{2}  = x {}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{x {}^{2} }  - 2 \times x \times  \frac{1}{x}  \\ 8 {}^{2}  = x {}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{x {}^{2} }  - 2 \\ x {}^{2} +   \frac{1}{x {}^{2} }  = 64 + 2 \\  x {}^{2}  +  \frac{1}{x {}^{2} }  = 66
