Answer :

k = 12

Solution :

• Given :

(x - 2) is a factor of f(x) = x³ - 3x² - 4x + k

• To find : k = ?

It is given that , (x - 2) is a factor of (x - 2) .

If x - 2 = 0 , then x = 2 .

Thus , x = 2 is a zero of zero of f(x) and hence f(2) = 0 .

Thus ,

=> f(2) = 0

=> 2³ - 3•2² - 4•2 + k = 0

=> 8 - 12 - 8 + k = 0

=> k - 12 = 0

=> k = 12

Hence k = 12 .
