First I want to tell my opinion that your question may has a correction to do.If your intuition is to give a quadratic equation in the problem,then you have to modify your question. It's because the expression you have given in the question is not a quadratic equation.It is just a polynomial of degree 2 or just simply a quadratic polynomial.If you want change a polynomial into a equation then you have equate it to "0". that's when it becomes an equation.
x^2 + 3ax - 2a = 0 is a quadratic equation now.

x - 2 = 0
x = 2
