Answer: Hi there !!

It is given that x = a and y = b

We have the two equations as

x - y = 2 --------( 1 )

x + y = 4 --------( 2 )

Now, we substitute the value of x and y in the above two equations and get:

a - b = 2 ---------( 3 )

a + b = 4 ---------( 4 )

On adding them we get

a - b = 2

a + b = 4  ( + )

--------------

2a = 6

a = 3 ----( 5 )

Now we put ( 5 ) back in ( 3 )

3 - b = 2

b = 1
